The ‘Town of Oaks’ as it translates is the most famed wine district. This intensively farmed district is the most sought after area for quality having produced the majority of South Africa’s most famous wines dating back to the 17th Century.

It is split into five wards. The red producing Simonsberg, cooled by the sea breeze from False Bay to the Pinotage predominant Papegaaiberg, Devon Valley and Bottelary, all which have created a successful legacy of quality wines from their sea cooled soils .

The Jonkershoek Valley houses the cream of the crops producing some of the regions top wines and boutique wineries dominated by their imposing ‘Lord of the Rings’ like mountains called the Twin peaks which tower up to 1,494 metres above the valley.
