![]() The central high-plateau of South Africa is surrounded by mighty mountains, which drop into the endless sweeping plains of the Karoo. The basin itself gets almost no rainfall in the winter months and has an annual rainfall of as little as 400 mm in summer. Plantings were traditionally in the valleys but due to the areas semi arid temperatures vines over time have been moved up to the cooler temperatures of the mountains to their breathtaking views that watch over the plains. Muscat cultivars flourish here and Calitzdorp is a wonderful place to stop and enjoy a glass of port style wine. ![]() |
