Tulbagh, The Secluded Valley

Surrounded on two sides by the great Winterhoek Mountains, Tulbagh is an up and coming district, which is a hidden gem. Apart from its natural beauty, its biggest secret is a weather phenomenon called the ‘cold trap’ which occurs under the Horseshoed Mountains that once over looked a Prehistoric lake. The lake, now long gone leaves behind the basin where the town of Tulbagh now stands and where, overnight the cold air settles and forms a cold bubble trapped under the warming air of the sun, resulting in relatively cool, daily temperatures.
